Project Overview

Terra Nova completed this remedial action construction project 2 months ahead of schedule, for the turn-key construction of a landfill cap and stormwater diversion systems for an uncontrolled waste dump site in Arabia, North Carolina. This was a State of North Carolina lead project to remove the site from their uncontrolled landfill listing. Project-specific work included clearing and grubbing 30 years of growth, removal, and disposal of surficial debris, installation and maintenance of both temporary erosion and sedimentation control measures, site grading, placement of a multi-media soil cap, and installation of permanent stormwater swales, and the establishment of vegetative cover over all disturbed areas.

Project Highlights

  • Installation of a 2-foot multi-media impermeable cover over a 4+ acre uncontrolled landfill

  • Cleared and removed 30+ years of vegetative growth,

  • Installed approximately 1000 feet of synthetic membrane over stormwater diversion trenching.

  • Installed temporary ¼ acre stormwater management basins including floating skimmer and sediment contained spillway.

  • Maintained close coordination with project engineer for design implementation oversight.
